First Friday Santa Cruz

Founded by Chip, and Kirby Scudder

First Friday Santa Cruz began as a grassroots effort to showcase local art and connect people to the creative spirit of the city. What started with a handful of participating venues grew into a citywide tradition, with galleries, shops, and public spaces opening their doors each month.

The event energized downtown, built bridges between artists and businesses, and gave residents and visitors a reason to gather, explore, and celebrate creativity together. First Friday became a defining ritual for Santa Cruz—proof of how consistent, community-driven programming can transform a city’s cultural identity.
